1:34.4	He served in the Senate for 12 years from 1843 to 1855. He had a reputation for being extremely pro-slavery.
1:38.2	He owned slaves, supported all of the slave state issues in the run-up to the Civil War, and when the war finally commenced,
1:44.9	he served in the Confederate Army as a Brigadier General commanding Missouri troops.
1:50.2	So he's not the finest of people to sit in the Upper Chamber of Congress.
1:54.7	Quite frankly, if it wasn't for the events that I'll be discussing in this episode,
1:58.5	David Rice Achinson would probably be mostly forgotten to history.

2:11.0	This fact has been repeated on and off for over 150 years. In fact, the words
2:16.7	President of the United States for one day are on his tombstone in Missouri as sort of a
