Last week, Russian troops took control of the Crimean Peninsula,

and yesterday the Crimean Parliament announced that it would hold a referendum

on whether to join the Russian Federation.

President Obama denounced the move.

The proposed referendum on the future of Crimea would violate the Ukrainian constitution

and violate international law.

In 2014, we are well beyond the days when borders can be redrawn over the heads of
