Real fun one today. The excitement continues to pick up as we get closer to Hawkeye football season. We got connected with David Pollock, former ESPN Game Day analyst, host of his own college football podcast now. And he helps us preview not just Iowa football, but college football at large for the 2025 season. Awesome to be able to connect with guys like this. Never thought we'd have that opportunity,

0:55.1

but we do. You're going to enjoy this one. Let's have a day. Let's go. Welcome into another episode of the Washed of Walk On this year, brought to you by Fanduil.

1:04.0

A special episode of the podcast today as we get closer to football season kicks off just this weekend with the enemy over in Ireland.

1:08.1

But before that, I know, right?

1:09.3

I love that.

2:18.3

Somehow, David, they let the cyclones kick off the season. I don't know how that works. Special guests today, former All-American out of Georgia. Biggest personality, one of the biggest personalities in all of the sport and has a show all about college football, C ball, Gipball, which I love. David Pollock joins the show. David, thank you for your time today, man. Man, I'm just reminded, like, and we're about to get all of this, right? Like, just you're calling them the enemy. That's why this is the best sport on the planet. Like just the hatred, the vitriol, the rivalries, everything that go, the pageantry, all that goes with it, man. Like, I know you'll be cheering hard for that Dublin game this week. It's an interesting one for us because do you want them to win and feel like they, you know, maybe they don't have as much to worry about? Do you want Kansas State to beat up on them? I'm not sure. How do you view that, you know, the Iowa state rivalry? Obviously here in the state of Iowa, it's massive. It is the state. I think nationally it kind of goes underrated. What do you think about it? Well, I think when you get to experience it, it makes it more fun. So like being there with college game day, like you just see it, man.

2:19.4

Like you see the passion.

2:20.9

That's the cool.

2:23.3

That's the coolest part about going and visiting all the traditions.

2:25.4

You know, I played football in the SEC.

2:26.8

So that's all you really know.

2:30.3

But when you get to travel the country and you get to see the different fan bases and the different, the different celebrations, the different, the way people do different.

2:36.6

I mean, like it was the hospital, the lights and like all the different traditions and things.

2:42.3

And like we have those obviously and I know about the Auburn Eagle flying and I know about

2:47.9

all that different stuff.

2:48.7

I'm going to watching Ralphie Run at Colorado, right? Like being able to come to watch you guys and all the different experiences. It's just, it's unique, it's cool. It's why college football is the best is because the passion wherever you're at is so, it's so big. And one thing I've always talked, I've always thought about as an analyst and as a commentator that does this, man, like, you can't bull crap people in Iowa. You can't bull crap people in Nebraska. Like, this is their squad, man. Don't come at me with some crap that you read online that you just did five minutes before a show. Like, you need to understand that team, those teams, those fans are awesome. They're diehard. They bleed it. They live it. Like I also got to come at the height of Caitlin Clark. I brought my baby girl up there to go watch a game. And that was, that was super cool and super awesome. And the Iowa people were just, we're awesome to us. So I've always been big fans. It's an awesome part of the country because when it comes to sports, there aren't a lot of pro teams.

3:42.4

We just don't have those metro cities that, you know, can support that, although some

3:47.5

people may argue, you know, they want to bring Caitlin back and start a pro team in Des Moines.

3:53.1

So Iowa football, Iowa State football, Nebraska football, that is everything.

3:59.2

You know, Nebraska volleyball gets that same sort of support.

4:01.7

The Iowa basketball, especially for the women's team.

4:04.4

We'll see with the men's team, new coach in town.
