What is sport? What distinguishes it from other activities? That's the kind of question that

preoccupies the few philosophers who write about sport. But it's not the kind of

question that interests sports fanatic David Papano of King's College London.

He has a blog that he devotes to topics in philosophy and sport.

David Papano, welcome to Philosophy Bites.

Good afternoon. I'm very pleased to be here.

The topic we're going to talk about is Philosophy and Sport.

Why and not of?

Well there is a subject, Philosophy of Sport, and it tends to be rather limited in the topics it

covers it what's the nature what's the definition of sport why sport valuable

should be allowed drugs to be used in sport, how do we decide between

the sexes and sport, stuff like that, whereas I think sport is much more philosophically interesting than that.

And what I do in my blog is just look at topics that are interesting both to philosophers and to sports fans, where it's some aspect of sport which makes

a philosophical point or some theme or idea from philosophy that cast light on what's going on in sport.

Could you give some examples of the kind of things you write about?
