Dr. David Nabarro is a trained medic who has worked all over the world,

firstly for the UK government and for the last two decades for the UN agency,

the World Health Organization. He has led efforts to tackle malaria, a cholera outbreak in Haiti,

and the 2014 Ebola epidemic in West Africa. He was a contender for the leadership of the

World Health Organization three years ago. He didn't get that job, but he does now have another

crucial WHO mission leading the agency's response to the

COVID-19 pandemic. In recent days, that task has been complicated by Donald Trump's decision to suspend

US funding for the WHO. The president accused the agency of being China-centric and failing in its

basic duty to properly investigate and respond to the origins of the coronavirus. So has the ability

of the WHO to inform, coordinate, and lead the international fight against COVID-19 been fundamentally compromised.
