There are many weapons the bears have to invest in this season.

Now, one of them that we haven't talked about much,

because we just all assume it's going to be okay, but it might not be, is running back.

So, David Montgomery is back in the mix, back in the news.

He has confirmed his desire to stay with the bears.

He said, quote, I'm excited for free agency. I love the Bears, love the

organization, love of the city treated me. They got a good thing going over there, and I hope I'll be

back. When I asked about other teams that peak his interest in pre-agency, Montgomery kept it vague, seemingly focused on sticking with his current team, quote,

I really just try to see where I'm at right now, not trying to look too far ahead, I just try to take it one day at a time and be present with where I am. Be where my feet are.

These are new comments from David Montgomery about his contract situation. Reports indicate that he may want up to $10 million per year in a new contract with the Bears.

I have a lot of opinions on this. So I'm glad we have some time to discuss it here today. I'm glad that David Montgomery

made these comments. It's a conflicting situation. And for the right price, it would be right

to pay David Montgomery. But for the wrong price, it could be a complete disaster. Let me tell you

why. Now, Montgomery has been a very productive two-dimensional

running back for the Bears. There is value in that. I like two-dimensional running backs. I like a

guy who could run and catch the football. David Montgomery, too, is a very good downhill runner.

It's not quick and speedy like a Tariqone or Khalil Herbert, he just runs. You give him the football,

you know you're getting four yards, breaks tons of tackles, moves through the offensive line,

does a really good job. I think he's very talented. I think there's value, and I think he's a very

good player who deserves some sort of contract extension for a raise.

Here's the problem, though.

The Bears have a lot of running backs.
