I have with me the author of charade, the COVID lies that crushed a nation and a general columnist, the closest thing that West Virginia has right now to Ernest Hemingway. Mr. David Marcus is with us for this episode. David Marcus, good to see you, sir. |
| 0:29.0 | Thanks for having me, man. It's nice to see you. |
| 0:31.0 | You know, somebody asked me the other day this. I'm just wondering what you think. What would happen if we had another, let's just say a really bad flu season. |
| 0:40.0 | Would you know, because you wrote your book on on COVID. Do you think that most of what was done before would be done again? You think that go back to it? |
| 0:48.0 | Not exactly in the same way. I think that I think the American people have become a little too suspicious for that, especially sort of in red states. |
| 0:58.0 | I mean, look, are there parts of, you know, in parks, look, Brooklyn, if like, the Democrats were like, put your mask on, stay inside. Yeah, I mean, they would love that. |
| 1:06.0 | They would, you know, feel morally superior again. It would be great. No, I don't think it would work out exactly that way. But, but I do, you know, it's the rest of your question. |
| 1:15.0 | I do worry that COVID was a kind of dress rehearsal, whether intentionally or not. |
| 1:20.0 | To sort of see, can society operate if everyone just stays home? And as I wrote in a column recently, sadly, the answer was sort of yes. |
| 1:30.0 | And that's pretty scary, looking forward. |
| 1:33.0 | I mean, I will say that, you know, for me, I wasn't married. I didn't have kids during the pandemic. So now when I look at things, I look back at it. |
| 1:41.0 | I mean, it was remarkable in so many ways, but there were parts of it where I was like, well, I guess I just get to stay home, not socialize, not go anywhere and order food and watch Netflix and play video games. |
| 1:53.0 | I took up PlayStation again, because I had a lot of time on my hands when I wasn't doing radio. |
| 2:00.0 | There was a moment I remember like in the first week or two, because I believe I had gotten my son like an Nintendo switch for Christmas, like a couple months before. |
| 2:10.0 | And there was like a run on Nintendo switches. Do you remember that like everyone everyone ran out because like this was the device that you could have that would like, you know, it was awful. |
| 2:18.0 | You remember zoom cocktails. Was that anything? Is there ever been a worse social event than the history of mankind that zoom cocktails. It was so horrible and and in you main. |
| 2:31.0 | That was horrible. |
| 2:32.0 | We were told that we would never shake hands again. I mean, you remember this like that with like, should they were like, ah, hand shaking has gone. |
| 2:38.0 | And you know what's remarkable. I was doing, ah, I'm doing some some research for a book. It's not a COVID book, but I was looking back at some of the stuff that happened in 2024. |
| 2:47.0 | People, I don't think people even remember this that there was a period where they were actually telling everybody that, first of all, they said don't get masks, which you remember. |
| 2:58.0 | There was that don't buy masks where they told everybody stop it. And Fauci's like doesn't really work. |
