Thank you. Welcome back. We're talking to Dr. Willie Soon, and he is a researcher at the Solar and Stellar Physics Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

A lot of people are asking if there was any relation to this emergency message that we're getting today

and the solar observatory that was shut down two weeks ago.

We have had local reports saying that they

conducted that raid because of child pornography and listed a janitor there as being the

suspect. I still that you wouldn't have that warrant given by the FBI to the sheriff is

kind of crazy, isn't it? Kind of crazy that they wouldn't play it so secretively, have the helicopters and so forth,

and then keep it a secret for two weeks.

Nevertheless, it doesn't look like this is a coronal mass ejection that is coming, as Dr. Soon

was saying, they wanted to close this observatory down.

For other reasons, they're moving everything into one giant basket of, I forget,

the figure you had of something like $350 million some odd dollars in one observatory.

They're going to put all the solar observatories there.

But we wanted to also talk about the risk of a Carrington-type event going back to 1859.

And as I always say, that it's not a matter of if, but when, that these things happen every 100 to 200 years. We just had one recently in July of 2012 as I was researching this.

We had a massive CME that narrowly missed us.

And Daniel Baker, the University of California, told NASA in 2014, if it had hit, we would still be picking up the pieces.

And he said that three years after that near miss.
