I'm Mick Garrus, and this is Postmortem.

When I'm on the answering end of interviews,

perhaps the question I am asked most of all is,

what scares you?

Well, something I've been afraid of that's been creeping up on us for years now

seems to be coming true, and as a creator in the world of horror,

it's happening right now in our movie theaters around the country.

Though there is no dearth of horror movies on our movie screens,

the single original tales of terror are taking a backseat

to the ubiquitous franchise movies and reboots,

and I fear for the future of original idiosyncratic horror movies.

The generations of Halloween's and saws and purges and candy men

and nightmares on Elm Street and Screams,

and all their siblings are good for the genre,
