Summary

How Are Cultural Shifts Making Evangelical Trends Look Like Revival?

Good Faith "founding friend" David French joins Curtis Chang for a powerful conversation on revival, revolution, and the future of American Christianity. Together they explore whether today's supposed spiritual movements signal a genuine renewal of faith or a political realignment within evangelical culture. From Gen Z's shifting beliefs to the rise of MAGA Christianity, they unpack the tension between true repentance and political identity. David and Curtis offer fresh insight into how Christians can pursue authentic spiritual growth while navigating a deeply divided cultural landscape.

There was a quote I saw in a news story about this phenomenon and a person said, I didn't

0:07.4

know I was evangelical until I started going to Trump rallies.

0:11.4

That's an interesting statement.

0:12.5

Why would somebody like that say that?

0:14.3

What they found at Trump rallies were people who were just like them, who called themselves

0:18.5

evangelical, and then they're like, I guess that's what I am too, which is not exactly a revival.

Welcome to the Good Faith podcast. I'm your host, Curtis Chang. The Good Faith podcast is where friends who follow Jesus help each other make sense of the world. It's a production of Redeeming Babel, a 501C3 nonpartisan organization. Now, another production of Redeeming Babel, a 501C3 nonpartisan organization.

1:01.0

Now, another production of Redeeming Babel that is also very clearly nonpartisan is a course that you've heard me talk about before here called the after party towards

1:07.2

better Christian politics.

1:09.1

Now, there's a lot that I'm proud of of the after-party course,

1:12.2

but two things I'm especially proud of. When the Johns Hopkins researchers examined the impact of

1:20.0

the course, they found two things. They found many things, but among them, two things. One is that

1:25.4

we got an audience or a user base that when you plotted them out on a

1:31.7

sort of spectrum between left and right, it was almost a perfect bell curve. It actually skewed

1:38.7

conservative a little bit. So that's one thing, which is I'm really proud up. And then the other

1:43.7

piece of data they uncovered was probably a good explanation for why we got this sort of perfect bell curve of political views,

1:52.4

which is that an overwhelming majority of users of the after party highly prioritize their faith over their politics.

2:02.3

And this order of prioritization, faith over politics, is as it should be,

2:06.6

if we really believe Jesus is Lord overall.

2:11.1

So this prioritization, though, raises an important question.

2:15.3

If faith is really the most important thing,

2:21.5

what is the actual state of Christian faith in America?
