We're talking about his new book,

The Movement Made Us, a father, a son, and the legacy of a freedom ride. His name is David

Dennis Jr. He put this book together with his father, who is an absolute legend of the

civil rights movement named Dave Dennis. And I can't wait to speak to you all about it.

I can't wait to speak to David about it. I mean, the book is like no other civil rights history

I've ever read. I've also got some choice words about the change of strategy and the push for

Britney Griner's freedom, just stand up and just sit down awards and more.

But first, let's talk to David Dennis Jr.

Talk to us first, please, about who your father was, who your father is, and how this book came

about.

Yeah, so my dad, Dave Dennis, Sr. is, you know, I guess what mostly known for being one of the Freedom Riders who took the bus from Alabama to Jackson, Mississippi. He would go on to be heavily involved in the civil rights movement, one of the sort of premier architects of the 1964

Freedom Summer. He was, you know, in Corps through Mississippi, dear friends with Megger

Evers and Goodman Cheney and Schwerner,

and delivered an extremely powerful eulogy at James Cheney's funeral that sort of helped

change the course of the movement in 1964. And now he's, and, you know, he's my dad. So he's a pretty good guy, it's not bad.

Yeah, I mean, I've got so many questions.

I mean, first and foremost, about, you know, that moment where he spoke at Cheney's funeral and really played a role in shifting some of the political terrain of the black freedom struggle.

And I wanted to ask you, how familiar were you growing up with his history?

How familiar were you with your father's past?

How familiar were you with the movement itself and the politics of the movement growing up because I think it's probably

worth explaining to folks like, you know, you're, you're what, you're 33, 34 years old?
