Summary

David Cross is an author in the midst of writing a book — a large portion of which involves a solo, offshore passage to Brazil. Wanting to get the fundamentals right, David asked if he could turn the tables and interview me about this fictional voyage in order to make it as realistic as possible. Of course I was happy to oblige, and this conversation is the result of our chat. Read more about his book on loansailor.com.

Shout out to our map maker, Chad, who has been developing our

maps for tracking the boats at Maps.59-north.com. Chad and I have been tweaking the Falcon

map as they are at sea, and he just added a little pop-up. When you go to Maps.59-north.com,

click on Falcon, you can see above the boat, the boat speed, the latest

position, bound towards Antigua, in this case, and distance to go. It's really cool. We just

added that bound towards and the distance to go. Falcons currently, as I speak this, going

9.1 knots, bound towards Antigua with 1722 miles to go. They have thus far

sailed 1231 miles, so they're not quite halfway. They've been at sea six days, 21 hours,

and their average speed is seven and a half knots. They had a slow start. The wind is picking up

Mia sent me an email last night. They've been seeing steady winds in the high 20s, gusting into the high 30s. They've got the jib pulled out, the main reef down, and they are just flying along in a big sea and getting that ultimate transatlantic experience. I am delighted to hear that from them. If you want to check out Falcons blogs, they've been sending in blogs almost daily.
