Tonight on the podcast, we welcome a very special guest indeed.

Director David Carson helmed some of the finest hours of the Granada Sherlock Holmes series.

His credits include the Blue Carbuncle, the resident patient, the Musgrave Ritual, and the six Napoleons.

With the help of our incomparable producer friend David Ewell,

Luke and I were able to chat with Mr. Carson via Zoom a few weeks back, between preparations for his new film, Heartland, which begins

shooting in New Zealand later this year.

In addition to his work on the Granada series, Carson has famously directed dozens of film

and television projects over the years, including what is generally accepted as the very

best episode of Star Trek, The Next Generation, Yesterday's Enterprise. And he also directed the feature

film Star Trek Generations, where he had the controversial distinction of killing off Captain James T. Kirk.

But the topics of our conversation were Jeremy Brett, Carson's time at Granada,

and the work he did on the adventures and the return of Sherlock Holmes.

And it will probably come as no surprise that he shares our deep love of mr

Brett's portrayal of the character and his incredible skills as a creative artist

Well, first of all, David Carson, thank you so much for doing this today.

How has lockdown been treating you in L.A.?

They're just releasing small things like restaurants and stuff like that because I think the governor is feeling under pressure. So you can probably think we'll probably have another surge

in a spike in about three weeks' time. Yeah. We should still stay locked down until it's all done.
