Summary

Episode 218

On January 1, 2019, Tyler Trent passed away after a courageous battle with bone cancer. The 20-year old Purdue superfan's faith in Jesus Christ was strong and he lived that faith out during his last few months as the Boilermaker's honorary team captain.

David Blough is Tyler's friend as well as the quarterback of the Purdue Boilermakers.

From 2015-2018, Blough started 36 games for Purdue and led them to the Motor City Bowl this season. His biggest win came in October, when he threw for 378 yards and 3 touchdowns in the upset of the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes.

On this episode of the podcast, David joins us to remember his friend Tyler Trent and talked about the special bond that they had together.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Our podcast episode that we're releasing right now, late in the evening here, January 2nd, 2019,

0:14.8

is not something I had planned. Certainly 24 hours ago. This is not an episode that I thought

0:20.3

was going to be going out to

0:22.2

everybody to listen to on the podcast. But then I got the news late last night while I was laying

0:27.9

in bed that Tyler Trent had passed away. Tyler, of course, the super fan from Purdue, the Indiana

0:34.6

native, who captured the hearts of so many across the country,

0:39.2

especially in the sports world, who followed him in his battle with cancer.

0:44.2

And Tyler is an inspiration to all of us, including myself.

0:47.6

And I really wanted to just open up this platform, this podcast.

0:51.2

As I did with Tyler back in November, we were able to interview Tyler on Thanksgiving,

0:56.9

the day before Thanksgiving about his life, his faith, and certainly his battle. I was overwhelmed

1:04.2

with that. That was the hardest interview I think I've ever had to do on this podcast,

1:08.9

maybe even in my life, talking to Tyler. But I was so inspired by him

1:13.3

when I finished that interview and we released it. And I know it helped a lot of people

1:17.0

because I wanted to ask Tyler about his faith, that question that a lot of people may be

1:22.4

scared to ask or are afraid to ask or don't want to ask to be politically correct. And Tyler wanted to answer that

1:29.5

and share his faith with us. And he certainly did that. We certainly did it with so many others.

1:34.4

Anytime he was interviewed, whether it was on ESPN or anywhere else, Tyler always shared his

1:39.8

faith. And I wanted to just open up this platform again to remember Tyler. And I was going to just

1:46.6

talk for 15 minutes, 10 minutes or so in remembering him myself in the interview that we did. And I

1:52.7

am going to play a portion of the interview that I did with Tyler on the back end of this podcast.
