What if, when we think about Jews, our brains kind of break a little. There are a few jigsaw pieces that don't fit together.

There are enough cognitive dissonances that our intuitions

lead us Australia. Like, how do you feel when you hear the word Jew or when you hear the word

a Jewish person? Does that have a different valence? Do you think a victimized person, a successful

person, a manipulative person, a money hungry person, a successful person, a manipulative person, a money-hungry person, a virtuous person.

David Bedele is one of Britain's most successful stand-up comics and comedy writers,

and has recently embraced his position as a proud Jew and wrote a book that has completely changed the way

that I think about social justice, identity, and Jewishness.

It's rare that I read a book where several times during the reading I think, wow, my eyes

are literally open.

I just have not heard this

perspective, this point of view, put this way in all of the opinions that I ingest from all

of the rest of contemporary culture. It's a rare gift to be able to point out new ideas to people,

and David has that gift.

I want to say, as a preface to this conversation, this is not about Gaza.

This is not about Israel.

This is not about the current conflagration in the Middle East.

This interview was scheduled before the tragedy of October 7th. David regards his ideas as being deeply independent from and discreet from the woes of that misbegotten part of the world. He's talking about Western culture. He's talking about

British Jews primarily, but there's an analogue in Australia and the United States, of course.

So if you feel like, well, why aren't we talking more about Garzan babies or about the

massacre of October 7, whilst this conversation takes place after those events, I wanted to remain true
