Summary

For the fourth Sunday of Advent, the Church asks us to juxtapose stories of David and Mary. David decides that he wants to build a temple for the Lord, but God does not favor his plan; Mary hears what God wants to do through her, and she acquiesces. It is always a matter of following the promptings of the divine will and not our own desires, even when we are convinced that those desires are good and holy. Thomas Merton said, "Lord, the fact that I think I'm following your will doesn't mean that I am in fact doing so..." That acknowledgement takes great humility and spiritual perception.

0:49.2	It might be a bit of a surprising story, but you'll see I think it fits very well with

0:54.1	We hear that David, who spent his whole life fighting, he was a warrior king after all,
0:59.5	is finally given rest from his enemies on all side.
1:04.3	Finally David is at peace.
1:06.8	And so he calls his prophet Nathan, and he says, I've decided I want to build a house for
1:13.5	the Lord.
1:14.5	Listen, here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the Ark of God dwells in a tent.
1:20.5	So I David want to build a great temple to the Lord.
1:24.4	And this sounds pretty good, Nathan the prophet initially agrees with him.
