Summary

Father’s Day can certainly generate strong feelings about the relationship we either have or had with Dad. A father is a daughter’s first and most influential love. That relationship plays a critical role in a woman’s choice of romantic partners and how she sees herself. Relationship coach Laurie Gerber joins me in this open, heartfelt, and transparent conversation about how our connection to dad impacts our relationships with men and dating. We also share our journeys toward improved daddy-daughter bonding, and it’s never too late to start! Hello, hello. Welcome to today's over 50 and flourishing. So good to have you this week. I hope you had a

0:06.5

nice weekend. I know that this is following Father's Day. And I thought this would be a great opportunity

0:13.2

to talk about our relationships with our dads. For those of you who are still blessed to have dad in your

0:20.2

life, if he's still around,

0:21.6

I hope you had a very nice Father's Day. I hope you were able to share some exchanges,

0:27.8

memories, connections, stories, whatnot. For those of us who don't have dads, you know,

0:33.4

it's a bittersweet day. It's a day to remember, a day to reflect on that relationship

0:38.5

and what that has been like. I will say that the father-daughter relationship is a very unique one

0:47.2

and an important one. And we all know that it can lead to our relationships later in life

0:52.6

with men and what they look like. And if there are unresolved

0:55.4

issues in this area, it can really present later in life. So I wanted to bring on a very familiar

1:01.7

face and dear friend, Lori Gerber. She is a relationship coach. You've seen her here on this

1:06.0

podcast on over 50 and flourishing, primarily talking about love in midlife, relationships in midlife,

1:12.5

how to find it, where the men are, how to be able to secure love and what that looks like

1:17.9

in this stage of life.

1:18.9

But she and I were talking.

1:20.2

And we were talking about the power of the father-daughter relationship and those of us

1:25.9

who had daddy issues growing up. And I thought,

1:28.8

you know, that was a personal battle of mine. If you read my book Life Makeover, you know that I

1:34.0

shared that story in there. And I've talked openly about that. I feel blessed that I was able

1:38.7

to resolve those issues and therefore come to, I guess, a better knowledge and understanding of

1:43.7

myself and my needs
