Summary

This episode is a cry for help from the writer’s room. This episode reveals that the non-linear storytelling was more of a crutch than anything else. However, the emotional beats within this episode reach a depth hitherto never seen on The Walking Dead. As we gear up for the finale, we’re holding out hope that this could actually stick the landing (in TWD terms of course). Welcome to the Watching Dead, the officially unofficial podcast for all of the Walking Dead. I'm Jim. I'm Aaron.

1:03.0

And today we're talking season one episode five of Daryl Dixon. Do amores.

1:11.0

That's how they say it over there in France. The language of love.

1:16.0

Uh-huh. I don't know what that means. I think it means two loves. I'm not sure. That sounds right. Yeah.

1:24.0

Two loves. Daryl loves America and Daryl loves books. Right?

1:30.0

Yes, he can't get away from either one for very long. Yeah. I don't know. I think I think the titles fairly self-explanatory. What do you think of this episode?

1:42.0

I thought I almost texted you in the middle of it and be like, am I watching the best episode of the Walking Dead of all time?

1:52.0

Because it was really fucking good. And then we got some, I don't know. I don't know what to think about the whole Janet,

2:02.0

who, who of law, um, sixth Republic, uh, France stuff. Um,

2:10.0

but while it was just Daryl Dixon and the kid in Aslan and even some of the early, like, like, uh, back in the, the coastal main zombie wrangling,

2:18.0

I thought this was a fucking phenomenal episode. I, like, Norman Reed is his idols his way through 99% of the Walking Dead.

2:26.0

And every once in a while, they let him, like, rev up the motor a bit. And I thought everything with him and Laurent was just, just great, just amazing.

2:34.0

Um, yeah. I, I thought this was so close to being a truly great episode of the Walking Dead. And then towards the last third, some of the, the modern excesses of the Walking Dead started getting in the way.

2:47.0

But like, I guys had better than average. And I, and I think again, if, if you're one of the ones that, like, just likes to listen instead of watch, it's kind of worth your time to watch at least the first 30 minutes is episode, the filmmaking is great, the acting is great.

3:01.0

Uh, you know, there's no crazy zombie situations, but they, they get there. What did you think?

3:07.0

Uh, yeah, I, I largely agree. I don't, look, I don't think there's an episode of the Walking Dead. I would call amazing.

3:13.0

And even if this had stayed as good as it was in the first half, I don't think this would be amazing television. It's good. It's, it's good. Uh, and by Walking Dead standards, it might even be considered great.

3:26.0

Um, they should hang into lieu of, but yeah, I definitely took note when, like, Norman Reedus, like you said, woke up and actually gave a damn for a scene or two.
