Summary

Join Jim and Greg as they dive into three big martinis today!

First, they welcome Dartmouth's decision to once again use the SAT as a factor in admissions. Not only is it one of several valuable tools when considering an application, but Jim's reporting also shows that efforts to get rid of the SAT actually hurt minority applicants.

Next, they groan as the U.S. military response of warning Iran when and where our airstrikes would happen obviously did nothing to correct Iran's antagonistic behavior - as evidenced by another attack that killed six people working alongside the U.S.

Finally, they get a good laugh from Democrats pretending they care about having a secure border and trying to position themselves as the hawks and Republicans as obstructionists if the GOP opposes one particular bill. The latest example is MSNBC's Al Sharpton suddenly calling the illegal immigration crisis an "invasion."

Three Martini's coming up.

Hey, really glad you're with us for the Tuesday edition of the Three Martini

0:17.0

lunch, good, bad, and crazy Martini's for you today as usual, and our good one comes from the morning jolt you've taken a look at a

0:25.1

policy change at Dartmouth we've had a lot of criticism for different institutions

0:29.9

in the Ivy League lately but Dartmouth doing something that makes a lot of common sense.

0:35.0

What we saw in the wake of COVID and the wake of other developments in our country was that Dartmouth

0:41.8

and more recently Columbia and others have said you know what

0:44.4

we're not even going to really calculate SAT scores into whether or not we admit

0:48.9

you into our institution but Dartmouth is now reversing that. They are going to consider

0:54.9

SAT scores when it comes to enrollment and that's an important thing for a number of

1:00.5

reasons. First of all it's good to have a baseline. Standardized tests aren't

1:03.7

everything, but over the years they've certainly been helpful to determining who has achieved

1:09.3

well and who has a good understanding before they head into college. But the thing that really stood out to me here, Jim,

1:14.4

is that I think a lot of these institutions

1:17.4

thought when they canceled calculating the SAT

1:20.6

into whether or not they accept a student.

1:23.8

They thought that they were being pro-diversity by not including the score.

1:28.8

Turns out that the scores were actually really, really helpful for students in less than ideal situations by

1:34.2

impressing Dartmouth and other institutions about their capabilities and what they

1:38.8

could bring to the institution. So good on Dartmouth for changing it and an interesting revelation there as well.
