For more than 80 years, the petrochemical industry

has taken root in the region between Baton Rouge and New Orleans,

and the cancer rate is more than seven times higher than the national average.

So when Miss Sharon heard plans of a multi-billion dollar deal to build another plant near her home,

she rallied her neighbors to fight it.
