Pipeline to the Prose, how D3 Small College Nobody's Rose to Rule the

NBA, which he co-authored with Ben Kaplan. Good morning Danny how are you?

Good morning guys, thanks for having me on. Of course so how long has the book been in

development and how did you start down this road of D3 alumni who are making waves in the

NBA as head coaches? The book took nearly four years from concepts to publication because you know we both me and Ben both have full-time jobs and we did I was we estimated over 800 hours of research and it was over 100 interviews for the book so this is not just like a you know as told to type of thing got to interview everyone from Phil Jackson and

Jerry Colangelo and Darrell Morrie and guys like that who hired and worked with

D3 people to Brad Stevens and Jeff Van Gundy who wrote the forward to the book and

Stan Van Gundy and Hubie and Hugh B Brown and Mike Protello and Kobe Altman and

Raffelstone and Frank Vogel and it was just it was a really incredible thing and so it took nearly four years and the

concept came to me from Ben he played Division 3 basketball at Amherst and

he pitched me on this thing he was like you know played Division 3 basketball at Amherst.

And he pitched me on this thing.

He was like, you know, there's a story here at the time,

12 of the 30 teams in the NBA,

either their top decision maker,

you know, GM or president of basketball operations, or head coach had played at the D3 level.

And so it was actually statistically more likely that you were going to run an NBA team or coach an NBA team if you had played D3 ball, then played D1 ball.
