The Interview: Danny Moses, founder of Moses Ventures, joins Mike Green for a conversation on how to make sense of a market characterized by surging equity valuations and ultra-tight credit spreads that is nevertheless prone to gamma squeezes, forced liquidations, and the implosion of billion dollar funds. Moses, an investor profiled in the "The Big Short," compares the current boom to the bubble the predated the 2008 Great Financial Crisis and concludes that the unprecedented levels of monetary and fiscal stimulus are pushing investors further and further out on the risk curve. Green details the role of passive investing, and the two discuss the blow-ups of Greensill and Archegos. Lastly, Moses shares his insights on the cannabis sector as well as the prospect of rising inflation. Recorded on April 7, 2021. Mike Green, I'm here for Real Vision in Marin County. I get to reach out to my friend, Danny

Moses. Danny is well known for the big short, but is an all around fantastic guy and I can't

0:25.9

wait to hear what he's thinking about these days. Danny, welcome to Real Vision. Thanks, man.

I love looking at this earthquake background. It really is settling for me.

0:34.4

Well, the real big short is California falling into the ocean.

0:39.3

This is as we discussed earlier, this is the Loma Prieta, the World Series earthquake

0:44.1

happening in the background. It seems appropriate for a volatility-focused guy. So, Danny, you and I

0:50.7

interacted very briefly last week. We were both or two weeks ago. I guess we were both on an IEX

seen before. Tell me a little bit about what's going on in your world. This stepping into the

1:09.2

public eye is not the first time for you. You were originally before you came to Wall Street and

1:14.0

joined Front Point for the story that we all know through the big short. You actually wanted to

1:19.2

be in media. Is that correct? My first passion was sports broadcasting. When I was at Emory during

1:25.3

my senior year down in Atlanta, I interned at CNN Sports for Fred Hickman and Nick Charles.

1:32.9

Filming hockey games on the West Coast. They were ending it one in the morning,

1:38.0

editing them, doing some voiceovers for that. That was really my first passion.

1:42.7

But having been at Emory, I met all these people from the Northeast. When college ended,

1:47.7

I had a choice to go start covering maybe high school football games somewhere in the Midwest or

1:52.4

work my way back up towards Wall Street and I chose the Wall Street route. So maybe this is

1:57.9

an end-around way of fulfilling that long living dream, although really the whole idea is not

2:04.4

an ego thing about being on the camera and like that. I enjoy telling stories, trying to help people

2:09.7

understand things they might not be able to understand just from reading the fine print. It's a
