I'm Elvis Mitchell.

My guest, Day, today, can we know from all kinds of things, probably every iteration of

avatar, the last air band you could think of?

He's currently starring in that show on Netflix now, but I think about characters he's played

going from The Lost to the Hot Zone, and so often he's played characters who are trying

to find ways to hide their hurt.

What does that look?

Anyway, he's going to across from me.

What's wrong, Dan?

No, I'm immediately reminded of how incredibly smart and thoughtful you are, Elvis.

Like, I've listened to this show for decades,

and you always get to the crux of things with your guests that often they don't even realize.

And, you know, I knew that that was a dynamic that was kind of prevalent in my work,

but I didn't know that others knew that. I should have known that you knew that.

But I think it's interesting because there's never apparent. And the great thing about loss is watching the time you took to play that out.

And the way he would turn away after an outburst rather than show that side of himself.

And I always get emotional talking about that because to see that kind of character played out by a person of color with that level of nuance on the network television show

was still an astonishing thing for me to talk about. Wow, that's high praise coming from you.
