Summary

Daniel Alfredsson is a commercial diver living in Bergen, Norway. He is preparing himself and his boat to sail around the world solo, unassisted, non-stop with an old boat and retro technology as a participant in Don Macintryres 2026 Golden Globe Race. I had the pleasure of meeting Daniel and to record this conversation aboard the boat that will take him, hopefully, all around the world.

We've always used tablets for navigation on Isbion, and they have been great for a number of reasons.

But iPads were never designed to live on the ocean. To make them work for navigation,

you need to work your way around or accept a few issues. All of these problems have now been solved by ORCA. They just sent me an ORCA display too, and it's a waterproof navigation tablet tailor-made for sailing. The charts and navigation is excellent, intuitive use with weather routing built in. You can even test out the ORCA app on

your phone or tablet for free before investing in the display itself. Thanks to ORCA for sponsoring
