Let's dive into this episode. The dangers of practicing and being involved in Centuria. Now in a Supreme Court case in 1993,

Justice Kennedy in his decision said the following,

and I quote,

The Centauria faith teaches that every individual has a destiny from God,

a destiny fulfilled with the aid and the energy of the Orishas.

The basic of the Centauria religion is the nurture of a personal relationship

with the Orishas. And one of the principal forms of devotion is an animal sacrifice. According to

Centuria teaching, the Orishas are powerful but not immortal.

They depend for survival on the sacrifice."

Now, when it comes to Centaria,

the word Centuria is translated the way of the saints.

It's a religion that combines the African and Catholic beliefs and practices,

and it originated in Cuba among the descendants of the enslaved Africans.

African slaves were brought west and their belief system was made illegal by the people who enslaved them.

So Forman Centaria was their way of reconciling now their criminalized belief

system with the religion that they were enforced to embrace. Centuria does not follow a central

creed, code or a book, doesn't have like a Bible, but it's founded on rituals and ceremonies that have been

passed down by the oral traditions. Religious practices take place in their temples.
