| 0:00.0 | Welcome, everyone to the score fantasy football podcast. |
| 0:17.1 | I'm your host, Justin Boone, the lead fantasy analyst at The Score. |
| 0:20.5 | Always appreciate you tuning in. Today's show, it's a bit of a bonus episode. Normally we've been coming to you once a week on Wednesdays. Now with it, at least looking like we're going to have a season, hopefully. I mean, MLBs, they're having a bit of an outbreak, the Florida Marlins. It's cast a little bit of doubt on whether any league's going to be able to make it work this season. It seems like NHL, NBA, maybe they're in a better position with the bubbles, quarantined off from the rest of the world, at least for the most part. At the moment, though, at the moment, we're staying positive. We're also staying informed. Don't get me wrong. you just can't close your eyes and cover your ears and pretend none of this is happening. But we're trying to keep an optimistic outlook. So we're going to start ramping things up with the podcast, two, three episodes a week depending. This week it's three episodes, though. We got some outstanding guests lined up over the next couple of weeks here. So I'm really, really excited about that. Today, you're stuck with me, though. It is all me all the time. I'm going to answer your mailbag questions, do a little bit of news. Before we get to that, though, you know, the usual reminder. Subscribe to the podcast on whatever podcast platform you like to use. And if you like what you're hearing, give us a rating, give us a review, but also check out some of our other shows like expand the zone, pound the rock, puck pursuit, sweeper keeper. The list goes on and on. All right, let's hit on a couple news items before we open up the mailbag here. The first one, Dalvin Cook may hold out. Maybe he won't hold out. |
| 1:44.7 | It's getting kind of silly. |
| 1:46.4 | Cook's agent said like way back in June that he would hold out if he didn't have a new contract. |
| 1:52.0 | But under the new CBA, you almost have to report. |
| 1:55.6 | Otherwise, you're pretty much, you're risking losing that accrued year. |
| 1:59.3 | And then that would make him a restricted free agent in 2021. That's not what he wants. He wants to go into that year as an unrestricted free agent. But then this week, you have Mike Zimmer come out and say that he was told by Cook, that Cook's going to report. So then everyone reacted to that. Then Cook's agent denied it. Then the running backs coach for the Vikings said that he was told that Cook would report. Cook's agent denied that as well. This is all just negotiating tactics. Cook is going to report. The only question is whether he's going to get a new deal done or not. I feel like they're still going to get a new deal done in the next week or so here. So stay tuned. But don't sweat the back and forth on this one. There's a very good shot that Cook is going to be playing this season. Next up, Rahim Mostert, unlike Cook, he actually did agree to a new deal. Now, it's just a reworked deal here. If you've been listening to the show, you know this, there's just no surprise with this one. It was always going to end with Moseert getting just a little financial recognition for what he did last year down the stretch, for what he might do this season. It's not a Dalvin Cook situation. It's not a Derek Henry situation where he was looking for some massive deal. he was just looking to get paid like some of the other running backs like Tevin Coleman are getting paid on that team |
| 3:09.0 | because there is a good shot that |
| 3:10.4 | Mostert is going to lead this backfield in 2020. He's got the best shot to be an RB2 with some |
| 3:17.0 | RB1 upside some weeks. But his hold on the starting job, it's not guaranteed for long. So |
| 3:23.0 | I'm still willing to take Moert in the sixth round or later, depends on my roster build, but I'd be willing to take them in that range. But I'm also looking to have some of these other Kyle Shanahan backs on my bench. So keep an eye out for Tevin Coleman in your drafts, for Jerich McKinnon, even Jemichael hasty in really deep leagues with your last pick or keep them on your watch list for the season. Anybody in that 49ers backfield can emerge as the leadback at any point in the season. We know that. We've seen it happen. We saw it happen with Mostert last year. And then on top of it, you have the COVID stuff where maybe we see some guys miss time even more than usual. Running backs get hurt quite a bit. Now you throw this in there where maybe they could miss a few weeks if they get diagnosed with it. So you should always be investing in good rushing attacks. The 49ers, they're one of the best. We know that. The Seahawks, they traded for Jamal Adams over the weekend. So they gave up a package. It included a pair of first round picks. |
| 4:16.2 | Their defense gets that big boost. |
| 4:18.2 | I'll say, I think the safety position is often overlooked, especially in the draft. |
| 4:22.7 | You see these quality safeties all the time. |
| 4:24.9 | They don't often go in the top 10. |
| 4:27.1 | They fall. |
| 4:28.0 | And then a team like the Chargers ends up with Derwin James quarterbacking their secondary for the next 10 years plus. |
| 4:34.1 | But from a fantasy perspective, I see too many people overreacting to this. |
| 4:38.6 | Does it mean that the Jets are going to be losing more and have to throw a bunch? |
| 4:43.3 | Yeah, probably. |
| 4:44.5 | Does it mean that the Seahawks are going to be winning more with Adams on that defense |
