I'm Scott Feinberg, the Hollywood Reporter's Executive Editor of Awards coverage

and trustee professor here at

Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, as well as the host of THR's

award shatter podcasts for which this evening's conversation is being recorded.

This episode, I say for our listeners, is being recorded here on the campus in front of several

hundred film students. And our guest, though just 32 years of age, is a screen acting veteran

of more than 25 years. She, of course, made her name as one of the great child actors in

the history of Hollywood in films like I Am Sam, Man on Fire, and War of the

Worlds, and has continued to do impressive work ever since. She's the winner of two Critics' Choice

Awards and a nominee for Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG or now Actor Awards. She's been described

by the Los Angeles Times as the Jody Foster of her generation, by the Guardian as a preternaturally gifted child actor, and by the New York Times, more recently, as a remarkably disciplined and self-aware actress.

At this point, she could surely rest on her laurels if she wanted, but rather than slowing down, she has in recent years been doing some of her
