How do you, brother and sister, keep from your heart surrendering to utter despair after witnessing the tragedy of this past week.

How do you protect yourself from spiraling into constant, incessant worry and fear?

In part, you protect yourself from fear by being vigilant, wise, shrewd, and strategic. But you also

protect yourself from fear by believing that God is sovereign over all things, including

suffering and sin.

God is in control,

which frees us up from having to be in control.

For the one who does not believe in the absolute sovereignty of God that he is controlling all things,

and not merely controlling all things, some kind of irrational, angry, paganistic God,

but controlling all things in a benevolent way, not only for his glory,

but for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purposes.

As we see in Romans 8, verse 29,

for the one who does not believe that, who does not believe God is sovereign over all
