This is why we don't make a bunch of extra biblical rules. This is why? Because inevitably,

you'll sin.

And this is an important lesson for us to learn.

I'm not saying heresy, but I am saying sin.

Did you know that there's a difference between the heresy of legalism and the sin of legalism?

See, the heresy of legalism teaches that obedience to the law of God is a means of salvation. That's the heresy of legalism. The sin of legalism is to add the commandments

of men to the commandments of God.

So you can actually sin in legalism.

This is important for us to learn as a congregation

as we strive to challenge one another with convictions,

but also be charitable.

So this is a good lesson for us as just a church family.

Not the heresy of legalism, That says, do this and live.

Now the gospel says, live by the free grace of God and therefore do this. So the gospel is,

because we live, we do this. Whereas the law says, do this and you will will live. Now, we love the law because the law

points us to Christ. It hopes to see our need for Christ. And once we've received Christ freely,

not by what we do, but by what he has done, the law then shows us how to respond, not how to
