Do we long for that, brothers and sisters?

When we think of heaven, are we only longing to be freed from sickness, disease, fatigue,

to be free from the sins of others, the sin of others that harms us, hurts us, suppresses us,

free from disaster, free from death, free from poverty, lack, failed dreams, and all the rest.

Or is there also a great sense in which we long to be in heaven so that we might be with the Lord,

as the Apostle Paul says, to be absent in the body, is to be present with the Lord, and that when we're present with the Lord, first John says, when we see him, we will be like him,

for we shall see him as he is. That is, we will be like him being Christ in the sense that we will be sinless as he is

sinless. Do we long to be free of sin? Not just the world's sin, not just our spouse's sin,

not just the sin of those who hate Christ and hate his gospel,

but to be free of our sin.

By the grace of God and the grace of God alone,

that is one of my deep longings.
