This is how the narrative goes. God's kindness leads you towards repentance.

Pastor Joel, have you ever read Romans chapter 2 verse 4?

Ever? You obviously haven't because don't you know how to win friends and influence people?

Don't you know how to be effective in pastoral ministry and preaching and evangelism?

Don't you know what actually bears fruit and what

actually works? Kindness. Kindness leads people to repentance. Kindness wins people over.

Well, there's a few problems. Number one, how are you defining kindness?

Number two, what is the text you're quoting that I reference for you because you don't know the reference? I know the text better than you do most of the time. And so the text that you're

quoting, what is the context of it? What is actually being said? See, kindness, God is so helpful. The apostle Paul

inspired by the Holy Spirit is so helpful. He's so clear. Kindness is defined in the text.

Well, we don't have Paul listing three different things. We have Paul listing one thing,

three different ways. Three words for one thing. Verse four. Or do you presume on the riches of God's kindness and forbearance and patience?

What is kindness in the context of this text? It is forbearance and patience.

So God's kindness is what?

That through soft words and sugar and spice,

he breaks the heart of men,
