Manage his own household well. And this is where the literal translation is rules well.

An elder must rule. And not just in the church.

We see that elsewhere, but even in his home, as the head of his home, as husband and father.

He rules well.

That's what the Bible speaks to.

It speaks to a fatherly rule.

Not a totalitarian, authoritarian, domineering, abusive rule, but a righteous, self-sacrificing, generous, kind,

but also strong, courageous leadership rule.

That's what you're called to, men.

You're called to rule.

The Bible doesn't say, don't rule.

The Bible says says rule righteousness.

A righteous rule in the likeness of our Savior.

A rule that is willing to lay down your life for those who you are ruling.
