Summary

Most of us would probably say it is always a sin to mock others. However, in the earthly ministry of Christ we see him frequently utilizing satire and other forms of strong language in order to address his opposition. If we are truly called to imitate Christ, should we seek to imitate this aspect of Christ’s ministry as well?

In all measures. Now, what people will say, well, look at Christ and we see how he mocks all the time.

Like, satire was one of the most favorite forms of Jesus in his discipleship.

He's constantly being satirical. I mean, even naming Peter the Rock was an irony.

It was poking fun. He picks his weakest, most emotionally, constantly fluctuating,

you know, disciple and says, you're the rock. I have no doubt that when Jesus did this,

the other disciples were snickering. We miss some of the satire of Jesus. We miss some of these

things. Now, here's the deal. So Jesus mocked the enemies of God.

Now, the Christian is going to say, well, we're called to imitate Christ, but only some

So we should seek to imitate Christ as he loves.

present at all times. So as Jesus is telling, John chapter 8 that the Pharisees are sons of the devil,

he is not mocking and putting love on the back burner. He is mocking and loving. He is loving through
