And Jesus comes to him, not dressed for some kind of banquet or ball, but rather he is

dressed for battle. He's not only dressed and prepared for battle by having his weaponry on his

person, a sword, and his scabbard at his side, but the text says that the sword is actually in his hand and drawn.

So he's not only girded for battle, but he's in a battle stance.

He's not only prepared, but he is ready at that very moment to wage war.

And this is why Joshua asked the question, are you for us or for our adversaries? Are you for

us or against us? It would be one thing the lord jesus to appear to joshua dressed for battle

to wage war against their adversaries with his sword in that moment in its scabbard tucked away

but he comes with his finger on the trigger, so to speak.

He's not just armed.

He's at the ready.

The safety is off, which is why it's a legitimate question to ask on Joshua's part.
