Evangelicals today in regards to what is a sheep, who is a sheep.

I think we often think in terms of conversion that someone was previously not a sheep.

They were not a sheep belonging to Christ and then they become, they're

transformed, transitioned into a sheep. That is not the principle of the scripture. That's

not what the Bible teaches. In salvation, in conversion, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, a person does not become a sheep.

That person who is truly saved was always a sheep.

The difference in conversion is that they were once a lost sheep but now are found they were outside of the fold

but have now been found by the great shepherd and brought into his care so it's not that someone was a goat

and in conversion has now been transformed into a sheep. It is that this person was

always a sheep, but they were once lost outside of the fold, but have now been gathered by the

good shepherd, the chief shepherd, the great shepherd, and brought into the pin of security and safety.

Jesus says, my sheep know my voice. They hear my voice. They respond to the voice of the shepherd.

They come at his bidding. And he speaks of the unbeliever who is not merely unregenerate.
