It was in the believing hope of that good land that the patriarchs circumcised their children; but when God had sworn in his wrath concerning the men who came out of Egypt that they should be consumed in the wilderness, and never enter Canaan, nor come within sight of it, as a further ratification of that sentence, and to be a constant memorandum of it to them, all that fell under that sentence, and were to fall by it, were forbidden to circumcise their children, by which they were plainly told that, whatever others might, they should never have the benefit of that promise of which circumcision was the seal.” -Matthew Henry

0:52.2	I think that there are certain applications that we can draw from this for any generation, any culture, any nation, and any time period.
1:04.9	But there are times that God, in his just wrath, will withhold certain covenant blessings from a generation of children,
1:17.2	not because those children themselves have rebelled against God, but as a sign,
1:24.0	as a ratification, as a confirmation to their parents that they have failed the Lord,
1:32.3	that they have rebelled against the Lord, and that the Lord is indeed displeased with them.
1:40.9	And I think that at least at some level, that's part of what we're experiencing in Western civilization today.
1:49.2	Now, for a whole biblical theology in assessing the current situation, the reality is that God holds each individual person morally responsible for their sin.
2:04.0	So this is not to say that anyone is innocent or that anyone is immune from moral culpability.
2:14.0	Younger generations who have grown up and are now 20 years old, 30 years old, 40 years old,
2:21.3	by this point, certainly they themselves have made many choices
2:28.3	either to submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ or to rebel against him and they will be held accountable for their
2:36.8	own choices they will receive rewards for obedience and just sanctions and judgments not only in this life
2:46.4	but certainly the life to come for whatever rebellion they've participated in.
