Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Daily Stood Podcast. My name is Ryan Holiday. For over a decade,

I've been writing and thinking and talking about stilicism. And so each Sunday now, we're going to be rolling out a special episode

0:25.4

that will be either me riffing on a number of topics, maybe me riffing or expanding on an article that I've written or deep diving into an idea that I think's important that I think you'll benefit from.

So I hope you like it. Support our sponsors who make this episode possible. And of course, keep studying, keep reading and thank you.

Hello, I'm Hannah and I'm Sriruti and we are the hosts of a Redhanded, a weekly True Crime Podcast.

0:53.4

Every week on Redhanded, we get stuck into the most talked about cases. From the Idaho student killings, the Delphi murders and our recent rundown of the Murdoch saga.

1:02.4

Last year, we also started a second weekly show, Shorthand, which is just an excuse for us to talk about anything we find interesting because it's our show and we can do what we like.

1:10.4

We've covered the death of Princess Diana, an unholy Quran written in Saddam Hussein's blood, the gruesome history of European witch hunting, and the very uncomfortable phenomenon of genetic sexual attraction.

1:20.4

Whatever the case, we want to know what pushes people to the extremes of human behavior. Like, can someone give consent to be cannibalized? What drives a child to kill? And what's the psychology of a terrorist?

1:31.4

Listen to Redhanded wherever you get your podcast. So, and access our bonus Shorthand episodes exclusively on Amazon Music or by subscribing to Wondry Plus in Apple Podcasts or the Wondry app.

1:56.4

Remember, you don't control what happens. You control how you respond.

2:01.4

The single most important practice in Stoke philosophy is differentiating between what we can change and what we can't. What we have influence over and what we do not.

2:12.4

The chief task in life is simply this, epictetus said, to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself, which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I actually control.

2:28.4

Where then do I look for good and evil not to uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own?

2:37.4

What better opportunity to practice this chief task in life than the one we are currently facing?

2:44.4

COVID-19 or coronavirus is here and it is a global pandemic. If it isn't where you live, there's a good chance it will be soon and no amount of yelling at the TV will make it go away.

2:57.4

Curse in the origin of the virus being racist, perpetuating conspiracy theories and hoarding toilet paper will not save you. Tweeting will not help anyone. It only distracts you from the many tasks at hand.

3:10.4

Neither will sticking your head in the sand and pretending it's not that bad. All these things are wasting time that could be spent saving your life and others.

3:21.4

What you can control, as always, is how you respond. What matters is not what other people are doing or have done, but what you do.

3:30.4

That means keeping up to date with the latest advice from the World Health Organization and then actually following it.
