A police officer shot an armed hit-and-run

suspect during a chase outside of the King of Prussia Mall on Sunday. According to investigators,

the incident started with a hit and run around 2.30 in the afternoon in the area of the mall.

A bike officer responded to the scene and spotted the suspect inside the parked red Nissan

juke. He noticed the suspect was now hiding in the back seat before he could take him into custody.

The suspect was able to jump in the front seat, said Upper Marion Township Police Chief Thomas Nolan.

The driver of the Duke identified as a 27-year-old Philadelphia man attempted to exit the mall property by the season's 52 exit that leads to North Gulf Road.

Police say the man became stuck in traffic and that's when a marked patrol car pulled behind

him and with its lights activated.

The driver then allegedly tried to flee the officer before jumping a curb and breaking

down in the season 52 parking lot.

As the officer approached on foot, the suspect got out of his vehicle and was holding a

black handgun. Nolan says that he didn't, he doesn't comply with the officer's orders to drop the

weapon and starts firing the weapon at the officer. The officer then returned fire, hitting the

suspect at least twice in the leg. The man was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening

injuries. The officer was not injured in the
