Good morning in the news this morning.

Four people were killed, including a Chicago police officer, ER doctor, and a hospital

Monday afternoon in a shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. The gunman identified as 32-year-old

Juan Lopez, the former fiance of the ER doctor, was also killed. Gunfire erupted inside and

outside of the hospital at about 3 o'clock at the main hospital located at South Michigan

Avenue and West 25th Street.

The other victims were identified as Dr. Tamara O'Neill and Chicago Police Officer Samuel

Jimenez. A pharmaceutical assistant was also fatally shot. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie

Johnson said late Monday that the shooting began in the parking lot outside of Mercy Hospital

as part of a domestic dispute between O'Neill,

who had recently broken off an engagement with the gunman.

During the argument, Lopez pulled out a gun and shot O'Neill.

He then ran into Mercy Hospital and continued firing as initial responding officers gave chase.

Inside the hospital police exchange gunfire with Lopez.

Johnson said it was during the exchange of gunfire that the shooter was fatally struck, though it's not immediately clear if he was struck by police fire or if it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
