Good morning in the news this morning.

One person was killed and at least seven others injured, including a firefighter in an early morning fire in the Nicestown Tioga section of Philadelphia.

It happened just after 3 a.m. on the 3,600 block of North 21st Street.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found heavy fire showing on the first floor of an occupied

three-story row home. The fire spread to a neighboring home. Assistant Fire Chief Richard

Davison said 10 people in total were evacuated from the home. Some were able to make it out on their

own. At least two people inside the burning building jumped out of the windows to escape the

flames officials said no smoke alarms were present nor were they heard, Davison said. Six people

were taken to the hospital.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two others remain in critical condition.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was being treated at the hospital. The fire was put under

control at about 4.10 a.m. firefighters had residents in other homes evacuate due to the smoke,

and a septibus was brought into the scene

for anyone in the neighborhood displaced by the fire.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Every time I start chasing the chirping sound around the house with the smoke detectors and all

that stuff, I'm like, oh, I hate these things, but I'm so glad I have them, you know.
