In the news this morning, one person is dead and two others are injured after gunfire rang out during a large fight in Ben Salem on Halloween night. It happened at 7.35 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Bristol Pike and Woodbine Avenue, police say officers were initially called to the scene for a report of a large group of juveniles fighting. When officers arrived, they found three shooting victims identified only as a 14-year-old, a 17-year-old, and a 19-year-old. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at Jefferson Toursdale Hospital. Two other victims suffered gunshot wounds to their legs. One was placed in stable condition, while the other has already been treated and released, according to officials. According to police, the gunmen opened fire from a vehicle into the large

crowd of people. The vehicle was parked at Woodbine Avenue in Bristol Pike. It's unclear if the

suspect was involved in the large fight, police say. This was just an independent tragedy that

you don't want to see happen anywhere, especially on Halloween, when you have literally thousands

of kids walking around the street, said Ben Salle and Police Director of Public Safety, William McVeigh. Police say a single shooter fled the scene northbound on Bristol

Pike in an unknown vehicle after firing about a dozen shots. A bullet hole could be seen in the

door of a shopping center nearby. Officers are still working to get a description of the gunman

and the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call Ben Salem Police.

The second person to receive a transplanted heart from a pig has died nearly six weeks,

six weeks after the highly experimental surgery.

His Maryland doctors announced Tuesday.

58-year-old Lawrence Fassette was dying from heart failure and ineligible for a traditional heart transplant when he

received the genetically modified pig heart on September 20th. According to the University of Maryland

School of Medicine, the heart had seemed healthy for the first month but began showing signs of

rejection in recent days. Fossette died on Monday in a statement released by the hospital Fossette's

wife, Anne said her husband knew his time with us was short and that this was his last chance to do for others.

He never imagined that he would survive as long as he did.

The Maryland team last year performed the world's first transplant of a heart from a genetically altered pig into another dying man.

David Bennett survived two months before that heart failed for reasons

that aren't completely clear, although signs of a pig virus later were found inside the organ.
