In the news this morning, a third person has died

after a fiery three vehicle crash involving a tanker truck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. It happened

late Saturday morning in the northbound lanes of the northeast extension between Mid County and Lansdale

exits. Police say a vehicle was stopped in the right lane of the multi-lane highway due to a flat

tire. Another driver with

its hazard lights on pulled up behind the car to help. But police say a tanker truck carrying jet fuel

was unable to stop in time and slammed into both vehicles which caused the large fire. The driver of

the tanker truck and the driver and passenger of the second vehicle died from their injuries.

The driver of the first vehicle with the flat tire remains hospitalized.

An aerial view of the accident scene showed the extent of the fire as firefighters on ladder

trucks worked to put out the blaze.

My brother-in-law was coming down from New York and they must have had a huge chunk of the

Turnpike closed because...

It was between the mid-county tolls and Lans and uh landsdale and i mean it was shut all day but they

they had alerts like all the way up and down the road so people knew heading that way it's closed right out by my

house and and uh the the footage of of the wreckage is i mean like it looks like a full-on explosion. There's debris all over the place in the photos.

Drivers were stranded for hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The term bike was closed in both directions as police investigated and to allow removal of the vehicles and debris police said.
