In the news this morning, Philadelphia police are investigating more than 20 shooting incidents that took place over the holiday weekend in Philadelphia. Since Friday, 33 people were shot. 10 of those

victims died from their injuries. In the past three days, the King's Sessing neighborhood has seen

three shootings, one of which was fatal. In the city's hunting park section, two people were killed

and four others were wounded in a shooting early Monday morning.

On Sunday, police say a man was gunned down after an argument in a restaurant drive-through lane. In a tweet, Mayor Jim Kenny said the amount of violent incidents over the weekend is devastating

and unacceptable. Philadelphians deserve to be safe in their communities. My deepest sympathies

go out to all of those affected by this senseless violence,

especially families that have lost loved ones. Philadelphia's homicide count for 2022 now stands at

368. Around this time last year, 361 homicides were recorded at this point in 2020. 309 people

were killed. In response to the weekend violence, the nonprofit city of Dreams

Coalition announced plans to go door to door on September 21st in an effort to reach people and

stop the violence. It's the first day of school today for many children throughout the region,

but it's the first day of school in a brand new school for students at the new Black Rock

Middle School in Villanova. The school is for Lower Merion School District

students in grades 5 through 8 from Penwyn and Gladwin. Some of the students got a sneak

peek last week. Approximately 1,000 students will attend Black Rock. Fifth and sixth graders report today

and 7th and 8th graders will report on Wednesday. The start days are staggered to help everyone get
