And now, Preston and Steve's news update with Kathy Romano.

0:13.2

Today is August 28th, a Monday morning. Good morning, Kathy.

0:16.6

Good morning. In the news, this morning, an investigation is underway after multiple cars were stolen from a garage in Philadelphia on Sunday.

0:23.0

It happened on the 2,900 block of Arch Street near 30th Street station in the University City neighborhood.

0:28.1

Several thieves broke into a lockbox where the car keys were stored and got away with at least seven vehicles, mostly Audi's.

0:34.2

The garage houses rental cars, which all have trackers in them. So far, Philadelphia Police have recovered three white Audi SUVs in the city's Somerdale section. Craig me from Long, but hasn't this been happening fairly frequently? You've had a couple stories like this where they've broken in, like a crew and stolen like six, seven, eight cars. Yeah, what was the other one? Well, the last one wasn't cars. I think it was a motorcycles. Yeah, like the dirt bike. Right, right, right. Yeah. Police located one of the vehicles Sunday night along the 900 block of Sanger Street. They also located two other vehicles in a nearby alley off of Trotter Street. There's no word yet on any possible suspects in the case. Police in Newcastle County, Delaware,

say they've had enough of unsanctioned car meets. Drivers allegedly gather several times outside

of the Pike Creek Shopping Center to drag race. Neighbors say Saturday night was the second time

1:21.4

at six months of people used the shopping center in Pike Creek for an unsanctioned car meet.

1:25.6

They are also worried that it will continue to happen. A video of the incident shows dozens of cars racing around the lot. Residents say about 50 cars were in the parking lot, making a lot of noise and leaving behind a mess. Videos show cars doing donuts drifting and other stunts at about 1130 in the evening. There are several skid marks on the ground where it happened. The crowd left trash, beer bottles scattered on the ground after they left the scene. Employees and cars were still in the parking lot when the car meet took place. Another unsanctioned car meet turned deadly in Newcastle just last week. Delaware State Police say about 100 cars were on Bear Corbett Road when gunshots rang out. A 17-year-old was shot and killed. A 21-year-old was also shot and injured but survived. So the big thing is when you're street racing, you're normally drag racing, right? You car side by side, okay. But the other issue is now in the intersections with the drifting and all that. Yeah, they do. Well, they do like, I guess they call them side shows or whatever.

2:34.4

Right. But, yeah, it's not there that they're drift racing. Right. They're just spinning around, doing donuts and all this stuff. This was a long, long time ago, over 20 years ago. But there was somebody that we worked with that was down on Gerard, I think, was driving down kind of that industrial part near the stadiums. and we're just trying to get from A to B going somewhere and pulls up and there's some traffic.

2:38.2

And this is before everybody was doing the donuts and all that stuff.

2:42.3

And she goes, yeah, apparently somebody walked up to our window and we were in line to drag race.

2:48.4

Oh, my God.

2:49.2

And like they had, they were just trying to go somewhere. It was hilarious.

2:52.6

And they had no idea. And she's like, no, no, we're not, uh, yeah. We'll just travel through. My camry is not going to, not going to go up against these. And by the way, the most like demure person just say, oh, well, I guess I'm drag racing. That's really funny.

3:06.4

Several residents in Upper McCungee Township reported that a mysterious loud boom caused the ground to shake at about 815 on Friday morning.

3:13.2

Police search the neighborhood and surrounding communities by foot and drone.

3:17.3

Well, it might have been that because they didn't know what it was.

3:19.7

They searched the community by foot and drone, but they say they were unable to find any source for the sounds or vibration.

3:25.8

Calls to police for the loud, thud or boom that shook the ground led to an investigation into the source,
