Good morning. In the news this morning, a man armed with smoke grenades and a shotgun attack.

Journalists at a newspaper in Maryland's Capitol Thursday, killing five people before police quickly stormed the building and arrested him.

Police said the suspect was a white man in his 30s, whose shotgun rampage at the Capitol Gazette followed social media threats directed at the newspaper.

A law enforcement official said the suspect has been identified as Jared W. Ramos. Authority said the gunman entered the building in a targeted

attack and looked for his victims. Among the victims was 59-year-old veteran journalist and columnist

Rob Hyacin, an editorial page editor, Gerald Fisherman Special Publications Editor Wendy Winters and John McNamara,

and a sales assistant, Rebecca Smith. The gunman was a Maryland resident and search warrants were being sought for his home.

Phil Davis, a reporter who covers court and crime for the paper, tweeted that the gunman shot out the glass door of the office and fired into the newsroom,

sending people scrambling for cover under desks. A single shooter shot multiple people in my office,

some of whom are dead, he wrote. Davis added, there is nothing more terrifying than hearing

multiple people get shot while you're under your desk and then hear the gunman reload.

Jeez.

The attacker had manipulated his fingers in an apparent attempt to make it harder to identify

him according to a law enforcement official.

And I guess was he assuming he was going to be dead after this maybe?

And that's why he did that.

Yeah, they got him.

And apparently there's, in his mind at least, there was this feud going on with the paper for a number of years. Yeah, an ongoing feud. Yeah. That guy, that reporter who, that crime reporter said that, you know, he reports, he said, I report on this stuff every day. He goes, but obviously a whole new, you know, perspective. He said, I was under my desk and I heard him reload. I mean, how scary.
