Today is Monday, May 23rd. Good morning to you, Kathy. Good morning in the news this morning. The Biden administration is planning for an anticipated wave of COVID-19 infections this fall and winter by ensuring both a new generation of vaccines and access to treatment and testing.

Meanwhile, COVID cases are rising in nearly every state and it is prompting some schools in our area to bring back mandatory mask rules, including Philadelphia.

Starting today, the school district of Philadelphia is requiring all students and staff to wear their masks during the school and workday and while riding on buses and vans.

That's according to a letter sent out by the district superintendent, Dr. William Hede, attributing the decision to COVID-19 case

A teenager, a driver, and an officer were injured after a police chase involving two carjacking suspects ended in multiple crashes Sunday in West Philadelphia.

Authorities say a white Volvo was carjacked at gunpoint by two men around 1.45 a.m. in the 6th district.

Hours later, police say officers spotted the Volvo shortly after 2 p.m. at 52nd in Market Street, traveling at a high

rate of speed through an intersection. A chase ensued with the suspects, but it quickly came to a

screeching halt when the Volvo slammed into a 16-year-old on a bicycle at 53rd in Thompson

streets. A neighbor says he stayed with the victim and held an umbrella over him to shade him

while they waited 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

Officials say the 16-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
