Good morning in the news this morning. At least eight people were killed after a gunman opened fire at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis' late Thursday before also killing himself, police said.

Multiple other people were transported to the hospital with injuries.

The shooting was reported at the FedEx facility shortly after 11 p.m.

and officers arrived to an active shooter incident.

The gunman also killed himself at the scene.

A search found

eight other people dead of gunshot wounds. It's too early to tell, authorities say it's too early to tell

if the shooter was an employee at the facility and what the motive was. Police knew of at least four

people transported two hospitals by ambulance, one in critical condition. Three others were transported with various other

injuries, but there were also people who went or were taken privately to hospitals. Police said

no law enforcement were hurt. There have been several mass shootings in the United States in

recent weeks, including on April 8th shooting at a cabinet company facility in Bryan, Texas,

that left one person dead and five others wounded.

Last week, President Joe Biden announced a series of executive actions aimed at tackling what he called a national epidemic.

Gun violence in this country is an epidemic and it is an international embarrassment, Biden said at the time.

His proposals, which are likely to face legal hurdles, are aimed at reducing mass

shooting, suicides, and domestic violence. The Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit group that tracks

gun violence in the United States, found that more than 19,000 people died in gun homicides last

year. This was the highest yearly figure in more than two decades up by nearly 25% in 2019.
