Good morning in the news this morning.

More than a thousand people, including a South Jersey couple, were on a cruise ship that got stranded off of Norway's western coast in bad

weather over the weekend. The Viking Sky carried 1,373 passengers and crew members when it suffered

engine trouble in an unpredictable area off of the Norwegian coast known for rough, frigid

waters. The crew issued a Mayday call Saturday afternoon. Video and photos posted on social media showed furniture being blown around the ship and panels from the ceiling falling onto passengers. It was scary as hell, the furniture, because obviously everyone had their phones. So when these things happen now, you have just tons of video. And it was, like, it was long. It wasn't like a...

Hours and hours.

And, yeah, it was... So Dr. Charles Ivory, a retired South Jersey school superintendent was on the ship with his wife. He said that he was lodged underneath a massive dining table and he couldn't reach his wife. He said they were trapped underwater just as the water breached the dining room. the ship lifted in the opposite direction and the water drained just as quickly as it entered, he said.

and you think about you know how uh you know large those things are and that's the way they stay

afloat but you remember the the one in off the coast of spain all those years ago i mean that thing

went down yeah and these can go under if uh if the case is right. And visible right from the shore. So my guess is, I don't know if they did this. It seems it would have been the move would be to drop anchor because you couldn't. Yeah. I mean, you have no engine power. Yeah, you don't want to drop it off. Right. Ivory and his wife were rescued by the Norwegian Coast Guard.

Both are okay, but Ivory is now in a wheelchair until his leg heals after a minor injury.

The rescue helicopters battled severe winds Saturday when they responded to the ship.

The seawater was so strong it bent the steel doors on the Viking sky.

479 passengers had to be airlifted to land by helicopters,

leaving 436 passengers and 458 crew members on board.
