Good morning in the news this morning.

Three people are now in custody after a Philadelphia police officer was shot twice in the abdomen during a vehicle investigation on Wednesday afternoon.

Police Commissioner Daniel Outlaw said the injured officer was improving at the hospital and that he was no longer in critical condition.

The shooting happened at 3.40 in the afternoon near the intersection of 60th and summer streets in West Philadelphia.

Two officers approached the vehicle and at some point the passenger of the vehicle and one of the

officers got into a struggle. The suspect shot the officer, striking him in the abdomen area

just under his vest, police said. The other officer returned fire and the three suspects in the

vehicle fled the scene. At this point, it doesn't appear that any of the suspects were hit by gunfire. The injured male officer was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center by his partner. The officer underwent surgery and was previously listed in critical condition, but has improved, according to Outlaw. Thank God he's improved because it had to be at close quarters that he got shot. Yeah, right. The injured 32-year-old officer as a five-year veteran of the force.

Outlaw identified the three suspects as two men and a woman.

The charges against the three suspects have not been released.

Anyone who may have seen anything during the incident is being asked to call police.

U.S. Senator John Federman, the Pennsylvania Democrat who suffered a stroke during his campaign last year was hospitalized Wednesday night after feeling lightheaded while attending a Senate Democratic retreat, his office said.

Initial tests at George Washington University Hospital did not show evidence of a new stroke.

Doctors were running more tests and the senator remained at the hospital for observation, according to a statement released by Federman's communication director. 53-year-old Federman succeeded Republican Senator Pat Toomey

after a hard-fought contest against Republican nominee Mehmed Oz. He defeated the celebrity

heart surgeon by 5% percentage points and flipped a seat that was key to Democrats holding the

Senate majority. More than

$300 million was spent during the campaign, the most expensive for the Senate in 2022.
