Today is Martin Luther King's junior day.

When I think of MLK, I think of the embodiment.

You have a man who truly believed that faith without works is dead.

He was a pastor, father, husband, and brave leader that helped to change the course of society.

I think it's awesome that he didn't feel like he had to choose just one of these roles either.

He tried his best to be active in them all.

And perfectly human, yes, but active nonetheless.

He was active in his faith, in his family, and in the community.

He once said that justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.

I love that for many reasons, but mostly because love here is both an action and a noun.

And I think that is being worked towards.

And it's also the action to get there.

His daughter, Bernice King, summarizes by saying love puts in work.

So today, I want to remind us all that love puts in work.

And the action is required beyond the cut and paste quotes we love to post on MLK holiday, which isn't bad.

But I want to remember that Jesus's way is one of justice and love.

A faith and works.

And that sometimes it's messy.

And that's messy with in us as we work to become people that are more just and loving.
